The Deputy Ministry of Migration and the Deputy Ministry of Research and Innovation have announced the launch of a new digital service for the electronic submission of renewal applications for specific categories of residence permits for third-country nationals.
Who the service is for
According to the announcement, the service is aimed at third-country nationals legally residing in the Republic of Cyprus who wish to renew their residence permit.
It also covers employers submitting renewal applications on behalf of their employees, as well as authorised representatives, such as organisations, law firms or other individuals and legal entities acting on behalf of applicants.
What the service covers at this stage
At present, the service covers renewal applications for temporary residence permits for paid employment and domestic employment, as well as for employees of Foreign Interest Companies.
It also covers renewal applications for residence permits for family reunification purposes and long-term resident permits.
The announcement stressed that, for now, the new digital service applies only to renewals of existing permits and not to initial applications.
How the service works
Through the service, eligible applicants can submit their renewal application and required supporting documents electronically, as well as manage any authorisation granted to a representative.
They can also track the progress of their application, pay the relevant fees electronically, and choose their service point for the next stages of the process and for collecting their permit.
When physical presence is still required
As clarified in the announcement, physical presence will only be required at stages where this is specifically provided for, particularly for signature and biometric data collection.
Expected impact
According to the announcement, once fully operational, the new service is estimated to cover 73% of renewal applications for these specific categories of residence permits, 60% of all applications for the same categories, including both first registrations and renewals, and 25% of all applications across all categories of residence permits.
