Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre has confirmed hackers breached patient and employee personal data and made unauthorised publication of illegally removed information.
A malicious third party published data illegally taken from the centre’s systems, confirming initial indications corresponded to an actual data breach, the centre said.
The centre reported the incident to police from the moment of detection and informed the Data Protection Commissioner and Digital Security Authority. It is working intensively with specialised cybersecurity engineers and consultants.
The malicious actors behind the attack gained access to patient personal data as well as employee data, and are threatening further publication to media and social media, the centre confirmed.
The centre’s management is handling the case in full coordination with state authorities’ instructions, whilst additional security measures have been implemented to strengthen system safety.
The centre remains committed to addressing the situation and protecting patient and employee personal data, whilst operations continue normally.
