A natural monument over 500 years old, the ancient oak tree in the community of Fyti, has had a smart QR-code sign in place for almost two years, one of the most notable examples of a wider smart signage programme across the Paphos district.
Visitors to the site can scan the code and select their preferred language on their device, gaining access to a wide range of information, including details on the ancient oak itself, forest protection more broadly, the benefits trees offer to people and nature, and the life cycle of trees, along with photographs and video content.
Paphos tourism bodies have now completed the fifth phase of the signage programme, installing 23 QR-code signs at monuments and other points of interest over the past two years, as part of efforts to turn Paphos into a smart destination.
The fifth phase has been completed in areas including Yeroskipou, Akamas, Chloraka, Choli, Salamiou, Simou and Drousia.
A sixth phase, covering more than 18 additional locations, has already been planned.
