Two minors appeared before the Limassol Juvenile Court on charges related to creating and distributing AI-generated pornographic material depicting fellow students and a teacher, authorities confirmed today.
The case involves high school students who allegedly used artificial intelligence applications to superimpose the faces of minors and an educator onto explicit content. Despite depicting real individuals, the images were digitally manipulated through AI technology.
The matter came to light after school personnel discovered the material and reported it to police. Investigators determined that the explicit images had been shared within a messaging application group, leading to formal charges being filed with the court.
Today marked the first closed-door hearing in the Juvenile Court proceedings. The minors face multiple serious charges including the production, possession and distribution of pornographic material and child pornography specifically.
This case follows a similar incident that was brought before the Dhekelia Court after a complaint to British Bases Police resulted in charges against a 14-year-old student. That minor pleaded guilty to distributing doctored photographs of female students at a Larnaca district gymnasium last October.
The Dhekelia Court imposed a conditional caution on the 14-year-old, with provisions allowing the case to be reopened if the minor commits the same offence within the next three years.
The October 24th incident caused significant disruption at the school involved. Female students discovered their faces had been superimposed onto explicit content that had circulated through various student social media groups the previous evening. They immediately alerted school administration, which found that teachers had also been targeted.
