An attempt by the party Direct Democracy to establish an ad hoc parliamentary committee on artificial intelligence was rejected during yesterday’s plenary session of the House of Representatives.

MP Diana Constantinidou expressed objection over the decision not to approve the creation of the committee, arguing that the proposal had been blocked. The President of the House responded that the matter had not been approved at this stage, but could be revisited at a later date.

According to information, the proposal for the creation of an ad hoc committee on artificial intelligence had formed part of an agreement linked to support for Annita Demetriou’s election as Speaker of the House by Direct Democracy. However, the initiative did not proceed due to objections raised within the Selection Committee.
