A Nicosia event on artificial intelligence and national security drew diplomatic representatives and a broad public audience, with a former Pentagon official warning that AI is fundamentally reshaping the nature of global power.

The discussion, organised by Politeia Centre for Socio-Political Thinking and held at Artos House, took the form of a fireside chat moderated by Politeia President Anna Koukkides-Procopiou. Opening remarks were delivered by Politeia Founder and Honorary President Dr Nicos Peristianis.

The keynote was delivered by Dr Marina Theodotou, Executive Director of the Center for Frontier AI Security and former Executive Director of the Defense Innovation Board at the Pentagon, who addressed the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and its implications for global security. The session featured targeted questions on AI’s applications in security, governance and strategic decision-making rather than an open-floor format.

“Artificial intelligence is not merely a technological tool, but a catalyst reshaping the very nature of power and security at a global level, creating a new reality in which we will all live,” Dr Theodotou said.

The presence of diplomatic missions and embassy representatives underscored the international dimensions of the subject. The event concluded with a networking reception.

Politeia is a non-profit organisation promoting active citizenship and socio-political thinking.
