Citizens in Paphos who employ foreign domestic helpers are complaining about a recent change to the computerised system for paying employee benefits.

Citizens who contacted Phileleftheros said that, until recently, the process of paying benefits to domestic helpers was completed without difficulty, but in recent weeks the process has been left incomplete, as the system stops allowing them to proceed with paying off what they owe beyond a certain point.

They also said they risk being charged additional late-payment fees, even though they continue to act within the deadlines set for meeting their obligations.

Asked by Phileleftheros, a competent Social Insurance Services source said that, following the changes made, it is now a prerequisite for the citizen to be registered with the “Ariadne” system in order to proceed with paying benefits to these workers. The source said that anyone who has not registered with Ariadne can no longer complete this process, adding that the citizens who raised these complaints had evidently not yet registered with the system.
